In this final Chapter the children and their grandfather talk to a man about Watch and find out that he belongs to a woman and she might want him back. They try to figure out a way to keep him and go  to speak to the woman who owns him. The children are a bit homesick for the boxcar as they settle into their grandfather’s home. How can they feel more at home there? What can they do? Grandfather has a surprise for them, will it be the best surprise ever?

This is a story about two worms. A potato bug walks by and sees the worms hanging half out of their holes and feels bad for them. The worms quickly tell the potato bug how good things are underground and how happy they are. They two him how beautiful things are and how much they love living there.

In this chapter the kids meet their grandfather and see that he is not at all like they expected. He visits their boxcar and then he takes them to visit his home. The kids are surprised when they hear that Doctor McAllister has been checking up on them at their boxcar, they didn’t realize he knew where they lived.

In this Chapter Violet is at Doctor McAllister’s clinic and he is taking very good care of her. Mrs. McAllister has gotten all the other children off to bed and once they hear that Violet is warm again, they go to sleep. The next morning there is a visitor at the house and he is looking for the doctor. Benny tells him the doctor is very busy but the man wants to wait to speak to him. The visitor is very excited when he hears what the doctor has said and begs the doctor to let him visit with the kids. Who is this visitor?

Do you like cats? What is your favorite color of cat? This story is about a white furred cat who is trying to explain to Dolly how she became to have white fur when all her brothers are tabby. She explains that when she found a room full of food she heard a sound and when she realized what it was it scared her. Is that why her fur is white?

In this Chapter Benny is still working on his letters and learning to read. While the girls are busy helping him with this Jess makes a great dinner of baked potatoes that the boys tease her about but love to eat. Henry hears the doctor talking to someone about a plant called Ginseng and recognizes it. When he finds out that they can sell the root he tells Jess and Violet and they dig some up. After Henry has sold the root he buys a new pair of socks for Benny and the old ones get used to replace the bear they had to leave behind. Benny decides he wants this bear to look a bit different and have a long, slim tail and the girls do it. The days pass happily for the kids until one day Violet is not feeling well. When they have to go and get the doctor they are not sure what to expect. The doctor takes them to her house and they hear the three words they were all dreading. Will Violet be okay?

In this story Old Mother Nature is going to be talking about how mice with pockets use their pockets for gathering and helping to store seeds and such for winter. She discusses how the mice are different and how each one has learned to live in its area. The other animals are curious and happy to learn something new.
